Job summary

The Patient Safety Attendant at Altru Specialty Center in Grand Forks, ND provides a safe patient environment through direct observation and engages patients with diversional activities, reporting observations to the assigned nurse to support care. The incumbent ensures patient safety and supports nursing staff in a high-quality care setting.

This role requires proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English, a current BLS certification, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • English reading, writing, and speaking proficiency to communicate with patients, families, and team members.
  • BLS certification must be obtained within 90 days of start date.
  • Driver's license with acceptable driving record prior to start date.

Responsibilities

  • Directly observes patient to maintain patient safety.
  • Provides a safe environment for patients allowing the nurse to fulfill their duties.
  • Creates diversion activities for patient to keep patient from acting out; offers time, place and person orientation.
  • Reports the patient's self-report/symptoms of pain promptly according to standard operating procedure.
  • Transports and/or transfers patients within the unit.
  • Identifies ligature risks and reports information to appropriate person(s).
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

Summary:

The Patient Safety Attendant provides a safe patient environment by direct observation and offers diversional activities. The attendant keeps track of patient's behavior and reports the patient's condition to the assigned nurse.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Directly observes patient to maintain patient safety.

  • Provides a safe environment for patients allowing the nurse to fulfill their duties.

  • Creates diversion activities for patient to keep patient from acting out. Offers time, place and person orientation.

  • Reports the patient's self-report/symptoms of pain promptly according to standard operating procedure.

  • Transports and/or transfers patients within the unit.

  • Identifies ligature risks and reports information to appropriate person(s).

  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

Certifications
