Job summary

Rochester Regional Health in Canton, NY is seeking a Patient Representative for the ORTHO SPORTS department. You will support patient encounters, document in EMR, and coordinate with the care team to ensure timely, accurate information.

The role requires at least 1 year of outpatient medical office experience, EHR/EMR proficiency, and strong medical terminology knowledge. Full-time, 40 hours/week with 10-hour shifts; pay range is $19.46–$28.55 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1-year recent outpatient medical office experience; knowledge in electronic health record (EHR / EMR) usage and medical terminology.
  • Advanced technical training and/or certification is preferred.
  • Formal education beyond high school is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Assist providers by supporting patient encounters, ensuring accurate documentation in EMRs, and maintaining open communication with the care team, patients, and caregivers.
  • Manage clerical tasks such as scheduling, referrals, phone communication, record preparation, and collection of payments; support billing and insurance inquiries.
  • Ensure adherence to organizational policies, healthcare regulations, and DNV accreditation standards; collaborate with management to resolve clerical issues and enhance patient service quality.
  • Work closely with St. Lawrence Health System and PPM teams on daily operations, educational programs, and process improvements; participate in special projects and promote the organization’s mission and core values.

Job description

Job Title: Patient Representative
Department: ORTHO SPORTS
Location: 6119 Highway 11Canton, NY 13617
Hours Per Week: 40hrs
Schedule: Tues - Friday 6:30am-5pm or 6:45am-5:15pm (10hr shift)

Overview

Utilize electronic medical record (EMR) modules and other office equipment to perform all clerical tasks in an efficient and timely manner. Works in collaboration with physicians (MD, DO), Physician Assistants (PA), Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), and Nurse Practitioner (NP).

Responsibilities
  • Patient Care Support & Communication: Assist providers by supporting patient encounters, ensuring accurate documentation in EMRs, and maintaining open communication with the care team, patients, and caregivers.
  • Administrative & Scheduling Duties: Manage clerical tasks such as scheduling, referrals, phone communication, record preparation, and collection of payments. Help maintain efficient patient schedules and support billing and insurance inquiries.
  • Compliance & Quality Assurance: Ensure adherence to organizational policies, healthcare regulations, and DNV accreditation standards. Collaborate with management to resolve clerical issues and enhance patient service quality.
  • Team Collaboration & Continuous Improvement: Work closely with St. Lawrence Health System and PPM teams on daily operations, educational programs, and process improvements. Participate in special projects and promote the organization’s mission and core values.

Physical Requirements

S - Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Pay Range

$19.46 - $28.55

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
