Patient Registration Specialist - Patient Access * Days - 40hrs/wk (Remote)

General Summary:

Patient Registration Specialists demonstrate excellent customer service, perform efficient and quality work, create a positive experience for patients and families, and contribute to a supportive workplace culture. They obtain and accurately enter personal, demographic, and insurance information into the electronic health record. They verify insurance eligibility to ensure coverage is active for the date of service and collaborate with patients and insurance companies to resolve billing issues.

Requirements:

  1. High school diploma or G.E.D.
  2. Associate or bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  3. At least one year of customer service experience with excellent attendance and punctuality.
  4. Healthcare environment experience preferred.
  5. Knowledge of health plans, government programs, and workers' compensation plans preferred.
  6. Strong interpersonal and communication skills focused on customer service.
  7. Computer literacy with high data entry accuracy.
  8. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Team-oriented with adaptability and flexibility.
  10. Dependable, proactive, and able to prioritize tasks.
  11. Professional communication skills, both oral and written.
  12. Commitment to customer service, confidentiality, data integrity, and compliance.
  13. Meet attendance and performance standards; complete annual competencies timely.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Obtain and verify patient demographic, responsible party, and insurance data per guidelines.
  2. Accurately input all information into the electronic health record following verification procedures.
  3. Verify insurance eligibility through online systems and manual methods.
  4. Identify and resolve insurance discrepancies to prevent claim rejections or overpayments.
  5. Communicate with patients and insurance companies to resolve issues, guiding patients as needed.
  6. Identify patient balances and explain their sources.
  7. Escalate financially at-risk patients per policy.
  8. Complete work queue activities within scope.
  9. Respond to inquiries from patients and staff appropriately.
  10. Identify and escalate system or process issues, investigating and resolving them.
  11. Collaborate with other departments and insurance providers to ensure compliance with protocols.
  12. Participate in meetings, huddles, and discussions.
  13. Perform registration functions at different locations as needed, including scheduling, check-in, prescreening, and document imaging.
  14. Handle collections and payments within guidelines.
  15. Assess urgency and conditions of emergent situations.
  16. Perform additional duties such as maintaining knowledge of procedures, participating in committees, and continuing education.
