Description

The Patient Registration Clerk, in an environment of continuous quality improvement, is responsible for greeting patients professionally and performing an efficient, complete registration. This involves providing excellent customer service, promoting hospital public relations, and maintaining confidentiality of records. The role requires adherence to the MHS Standards of Excellence and strict confidentiality at all times.

Job Functions
  1. Provides a safe environment for patient care.
  2. Maintains strict confidentiality at all times.
  3. Accurately interprets written and verbal orders from physicians.
  4. Demonstrates appropriate use of AIDET when registering patients.
  5. Enters new patient data and verifies/update patient records, ensuring completeness of the electronic health record (EHR), and completes accurate registration.
  6. Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits for each patient.
  7. Collects out-of-pocket liabilities upfront and manages daily cash reports.
  8. Refers patients to financial counselors for further explanation regarding liabilities and payment plans.
  9. Performs all other duties as necessary.
Qualifications

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in hospital, medical office, or clinic registration/scheduling preferred.

Skills and Training:

  • Typing, spelling, basic medical terminology, interpersonal skills, and computer familiarity.
  • Ability to gather and interpret registration data accurately.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and families in stressful situations.
  • Professional representation of the hospital to patients, physicians, and families.
