Job summary

Seneca Nation Health System is seeking a Patient Registration Clerk in Irving, NY to greet and register patients, verify insurance details, and explain forms such as patient rights and medical releases. The role emphasizes courteous communication and accuracy in data entry within the EHR system.

Scheduled hours are Monday through Friday, 9:30am to 6:00pm. The position requires maintaining confidentiality, partnering with departments, and upholding the SNHS mission while delivering

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with at least 2 years of patient/customer relations experience.
  • Experience with medical billing and understanding insurance guidelines is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality by adhering to HIPAA rules and regulations.
  • Communicates effectively and can discuss personal information with patients or their representative.
  • Maintains accurate daily schedules and navigates within the electronic health record (EHR) software.
  • Obtains proper forms and information required by Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance companies guidelines and requirements, or willingness and skills to learn.
  • Enters all patient demographic and billing information accurately upon patient arrival.
  • Verifies patient information is correctly entered into the EHR system when patient checks in.
  • Assists patients to ensure all forms and paperwork are correctly filled out and entered into the system.
  • Corrects insurance information, primary care physician, and any other patient information as needed.
  • Accepts payments, issues receipts, and records all incoming cash.
  • Collaborates with all departments to ensure high quality patient care and maximum 3rd party reimbursement.
  • Helps patients locate the department and staff that they need.
  • Upholds and promotes the value and integrity of the SNHS mission statement.
  • Provides care through a trauma-informed lens and promotes safety and respect.
  • Participates in mandatory meetings, trainings, and in-services.
  • Follows all policies and procedures of the department, SNHS, and Seneca Nation.
  • Maintains a positive teamwork environment to ensure quality patient care.

BASIC FUNCTION

The Patient Registration Clerk is responsible for greeting and registering patients, and verifying all patient information and insurance details. The individual must be able to communicate effectively to explain various forms such as patient rights, medical releases, and insurance. This position must maintain a professional and courteous manner towards patients and visitors at all times.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Greets patients in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.

Provides care through a trauma-informed lens by incorporating key principles of both physical and psychological environment safety, trustworthiness and transparency, collaboration of decision-making during interactions, empowerment of patients by recognizing and building upon individual strengths, as well as recognizing and respecting the diversity of cultural backgrounds and sensitivity.
  15. Participates and completes all mandatory staff meetings, trainings, and in-services.
  16. Follows all policies and procedures of the department, SNHS, and Seneca Nation.
  17. Maintain a positive teamwork environment to ensure quality patient care.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

  • Computer proficient in data entry and spreadsheet applications is required, knowledge of electronic health record is preferred
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of two years of experience in patient or customer relations is required.
  • Previous medical billing experience and a strong understanding of medical insurance guidelines and procedures is preferred.
  • Experience working in a mental health facility, hospital, medical center, outpatient health care setting, or Indian Health Service (IHS)/tribal health, preferred.
