What You Will Do

  • Register inpatients and outpatients, understanding critical communication techniques to obtain accurate and complete patient demographic and financial information.
  • Perform patient interviews using appropriate techniques in a compassionate, empathetic manner, whether on the phone or in person.
  • Maintain patient flow and inform supervisors of departmental and patient issues promptly.
  • Understand all insurances with an above-average knowledge of Medicare MSP Guidelines.
  • Obtain insurance carrier information, scan insurance cards, and verify all patient demographic, insurance, and medical data for accuracy.
  • Obtain signatures of consent for treatment, information release, and insurance payments; refer uninsured patients to Financial Counseling if applicable.
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance by providing Notice of Privacy Practices and reviewing information release questions with patients.
  • Record patient admission information and coordinate with nursing for inpatient room assignments.
  • Escort patients, orient them to their rooms or departments, and route registration forms appropriately.
  • Answer telephone courteously, assist callers, and monitor patient status changes.
  • Meet or exceed productivity and quality standards.
  • Validate orders and medical necessity, explain ABN process, and obtain signatures.
  • Use registration software for accuracy, including address and insurance verification.
  • Complete document scanning, support point-of-service collections, and demonstrate proficiency with hospital computer systems.
  • Handle valuables responsibly, understand hospital policies, and explain deposit responsibilities.
  • Use medical terminology accurately and handle difficult situations tactfully.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and adapt to policy changes.
What You Will Need

  • High School diploma or equivalent, plus medical terminology training.
  • Effective communication skills, computer proficiency, and willingness to work varied hours.
  • Ability to read, write, lift 25 pounds, and assist with patient mobility.
