Job summary

Required are an Associate’s degree or equivalent and two years of related experience.

Responsibilities

• Identify and assign beds for admissions from multiple access points to optimize bed utilization.
• Coordinate bed placements and communicate with Clinical Operations Administrator to address needs.
• Enter accurate patient accounts and admission data into the EPIC system.
• Record admission status orders in EPIC for effective tracking.
• Provide high level customer service in all interactions with internal and external customers.
• Maintain patient confidentiality in all communications and data handling.
• Escalate bed placement issues through proper channels as needed.
• Enter bed requests and updates into the ED EPID Track Board for timely communication.
• Monitor census and bed status in Bed Track and coordinate STAT cleans when required.
• Provide updates to department leadership regarding placement needs.
• Cross-function to support interfacility transfers and ensure EMTALA compliance.

Job description

The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).

Job Summary

Collects and analyzes data on patient admissions, transfers and bed availability in specified clinical areas to improve patient care and maximize bed utilization.

Essential Job Functions

• Identifies and assigns beds for all admissions from various access points to include: the Emergency Department, Day Surgery, Ambulatory Clinics, pre-admission and same day admissions, from home, transfer from ICU as well as interfaculty hospital direct admissions through the Transfer Center.
• Facilitates patient assignments and communicates regularly with the Clinical Operations Administrator (COA) all bed placement need issues so that they can address promptly.
• Performs data entry of patient accounts, including but not limited to, correct admission source, admit reason, correct treating service/team, correct admitting and attending faculty and resident as well as correct admission status.
• Enters admission status orders into the EPIC electronic medical record.
• Answers calls and provides high level customer service in all interaction with internal and external customers.
• Maintains patient confidentiality regarding access to patient and other clinical information via email, computer and fax.
• Addresses concerns of patients and provides service recovery and escalates issues to appropriate chain of command as needed.
• Enters bed request and bed assignment information into the ED EPID Track Board for prompt communication of bed placements.
• Monitors census and bed clean status in the Bed Track system and coordinates request for STAT cleans as required.
• Provides department Director, Assistant Director or designee updates regarding placement needs.
• Ability to cross function to facilitate interfacility transfers in the absence of the Transfer Coordinator to ensure interfacility transfer referrals as well as transfers from the Emergency Department are in compliance with EMTALA regulations.
• Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure established for department.
• Performs related duties as required.

• Must be flexible to accommodate a 24/7 work schedule.

Salary is commensurate with years of relevant work experience.
