Job summary

The Veterans Health Administration in Washington, DC is seeking a Food Service Worker to join the Nutrition & Food Service at the VA Medical Center. You will handle meal setup, tray assembly, diet-card interpretation, and dining room service in a fast-paced hospital kitchen.

The role includes assisting cooks, preparing cold foods, and maintaining sanitation, with a Monday–Friday 11:30 am to 8:00 pm schedule and occasional heavy work. See posting for details.

Responsibilities

• Sets up and breaks down assigned station with the correct supplies and food items.
• Portions of food items into standard serving sizes using proper utensils and specified dishware.
• Selects and places correct items on patient trays and assists with diet cards
• Delivers meal trays to patients' bedside and reports comments to supervisor or dietitian
• Assists cooks in the food preparation area by weighing, measuring and assembling ingredients
• Prepares fresh fruit/cold salads/dressings/sandwich fillings and simple cold desserts
• Performs heavy-duty cleaning tasks throughout the food service areas and related spaces
