Job summary

Community Health Systems at Merit Health River Region Clinic is seeking a Phlebotomist to collect blood specimens for laboratory testing. Responsibilities include venipuncture and bedside labeling, specimen transport, equipment maintenance, and accurate documentation in the lab system.

Qualifications

• 0-2 years of phlebotomy experience required.
• Knowledge of safety guidelines, sanitation, and infection control protocols.
• Ability to perform blood collection techniques across age groups (neonates to geriatrics).
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with patients, staff, and physicians.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in specimen collection and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and capillary blood collection per policies and procedures.
• Ensures positive patient identification and bedside labeling to prevent errors.
• Prepares, packages, and transports specimens maintaining sample integrity.
• Explains procedures to patients and addresses concerns for a positive experience.
• Cleans, sterilizes, and maintains phlebotomy equipment and workspace.
• Documents patient and specimen information in the laboratory system.
• Collects timed specimens as ordered and meets clinical needs.
• Identifies and resolves specimen issues, including rejections.
• Collaborates with the healthcare team to clarify orders and communicate specimen status.
• Adheres to safety, regulatory standards, and laboratory procedures.
