Be part of a world-class academic healthcare system, Ingalls Memorial Hospital, as a Patient Financial Services Representative in the PFS Medicare and Commercial department.

In this role as a Patient Financial Services Representative, you will be responsible for account receivables management. This position requires detailed analysis and critical thinking. Ingalls Memorial Hospital serves Chicago's south suburbs. This position promotes revenue integrity and accurate reimbursement for the organization by ensuring timely and accurate billing and collection of accounts. The individual must follow departmental productivity and quality control measures that support the organization’s operational goals. Responsibilities include collections and final resolution of insurance claims, maintaining records and reports according to department procedures, meeting productivity and quality standards, and governing the collection process as defined by hospital procedures. The position requires understanding and maintaining all State and Federal regulations related to billing and collections.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Participates in process improvement and cross-training activities regularly.
  2. Keeps management informed of outstanding problems and updates on posting timeliness.
  3. Documents all actions regarding account resolution comprehensively and concisely, in accordance with department requirements.
  4. Seeks assistance for additional options when account resolution stalls.
  5. Maintains compliance with regulatory requirements.
  6. Provides written ideas to streamline and improve procedures.
  7. Maintains and monitors the integrity of the claim development and submission process.
  8. Acts as a liaison between patients, providers, and payers for post-care account resolution matters.
  9. Solves problems within established policies and procedures.
  10. Maintains third-party payer relationships, responding to inquiries, complaints, and correspondence.

PFS Representatives will support one or more of the following departments:

  • Billing & Follow Up - Denials
  • Accounts Receivable Specialist
  • Collectors
  • Medicaid/Medicare and Managed Care Billing

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to interpret contracts, and state and federal programs for proper reimbursement
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, billing, and collection procedures
  • Knowledge of UB04, 837I, 837P, 835, ICD10, and revenue codes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Typing speed of 30 words per minute
  • Ability to use a ten-key calculator
  • Good verbal, written, and comprehension skills
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions
  • Supports teamwork environment
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in business, healthcare, or related field, or relevant experience
  • Two years hospital business office experience preferred
  • Medical Terminology knowledge
  • Experience with Medicare/Medicaid and Managed Care claims processing in a hospital setting
  • Experience with Passport, NEBO, or FSS0 systems
