Patient Financial Counselor - Hybrid in CT

Location: New Haven, CT, 06511

Work Arrangement: Hybrid (remote in the United States; telehealth-enabled)

Responsibilities
  • Obtain authorizations for UHC members, and for other payers requiring authorization.
  • Submit prior authorization requests to insurance carriers.
  • Obtain and track authorizations as required by payers.
  • Communicate with patients regarding billing issues via phone or application.
  • Manage patient Accounts Receivable and assess patient balances to ensure accurate billing; provide follow-up on balances.
  • Monitor upcoming appointment lists for open balances and maintain the inactive COF report.
  • Handle all assigned worklists related to patient issues, self-pay collections, billing, and patient statement review.
  • Coordinate patient refunds related to Commercial patients and resolve insurance eligibility issues.
  • Perform timely insurance benefit verifications to determine eligibility and cost-share amounts for new and existing patients.
  • Understand payer contracts and billing requirements; regularly review terms to confirm billing accuracy.
  • Create patient payment plans when appropriate and maintain professionalism in all communications.
  • Navigate practice software efficiently and perform other duties as directed by the Manager.
  • Maintain HIPAA guidelines and a high level of discretion due to sensitive information.
Required Skills And Experience
  • Associates degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • AthenNet experience required
  • 2+ years of experience in the medical billing field
  • Strong medical coding, ICD-10, CPT knowledge preferred
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and billing processes/principles
  • Familiarity with medical policies and payer contracts preferred
  • Integrity, tenacity, and ability to work with accounts
  • Ability to identify, understand, and escalate potential issues
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external teams
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to set priorities
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Organized, self-motivated, with attention to detail and multitasking ability
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with internal and external customers

Pay Range

$21.00 - $23.00 hourly
