Patient Financial Access Specialist - Op

The Patient Financial Access Specialist - OP is responsible for facilitating patient access functions, supporting complex scheduling across multiple outpatient service areas, and ensuring accurate patient identification and information updates using various computer systems. This role acts as a liaison between patients, physicians, and nursing staff to coordinate appointments, procedures, and services, ensuring compliance with safety procedures and medical necessity requirements. The specialist must demonstrate attention to detail, sensitivity, and compassion, maintaining service excellence and supporting system improvements.

Responsibilities

  1. Patient Throughput: Obtain and provide necessary information to ensure reimbursement for outpatient services, including scheduling follow-up appointments.
  2. Insurance: Understand various insurance options, accurately enter insurance data, and verify patient eligibility and benefits.
  3. Complex Appointment Scheduling: Support scheduling for complex and time-sensitive appointments, utilizing the Epic system.
  4. Resource Management/QA: Support other outpatient departments and participate in system training and improvements.
  5. Customer Service: Deliver service excellence, ensuring a positive patient experience per YNHHS standards.
  6. Template Management: Collaborate with clinical staff to maintain Epic scheduling templates.
  7. Other Duties: Review and update training materials and provide staff training as needed.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.

Experience: 2-3 years in customer service, preferably in healthcare settings involving registration, scheduling, and insurance.

Skills: Organized, team-oriented, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, proficient with computers and healthcare systems, ability to train others, and demonstrate empathy and professionalism.

Position is full-time, with a focus on patient access and scheduling within Yale New Haven Health System.
