I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Escorts ambulatory patients and transports them by wheelchair, stretcher or bed. Verifies identification of all patients assigned before transport.
2. Assists nursing staff in moving and positioning patients using lift devices.
3. Delivers stretchers, beds, cribs, and wheelchairs as needed and assists in deep-cleaning of all transport equipment.
4. Transports patient specimens and contaminated equipment in accordance with established infection control guidelines.
5. Delivers other materials such as medical records, pharmaceuticals, and X-ray films as required.
6. Checks E-cylinders for content and distributes/exchanges them throughout the hospital.
7. Interacts with a web-based dispatch system for job assignments and maintains Transporter Trip Log.
8. May participate in Emergency Department triage transport assignments during disaster situations.
9. May assume the role of a dispatcher if trained and directed.

3. Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
4. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.

6. Maintains regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
7. Performs other similar and related duties as required.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

1. Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience/Skills:

1. Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 6 months of hire.
2. Required: Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
3. Required: Good inter-personal skills and customer service orientation.
4. Preferred: Six months’ experience in a hospital environment.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments.

III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

Work is considered sedentary. Position requires work indoors in a normal office environment.
