Description

The Milton and Carroll Petrie Department of Urology has long been a leader in clinical practice, education, and research. Faculty in our Department, housed within the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, perform complex procedures using robotics, laparoscopy, and endoscopy as part of our minimally invasive urologic surgery program. We are committed to breakthrough research and training future leaders in the field.

Responsibilities
  • Greet patients in person or via telephone, and update their insurance/demographics in the practice management system.
  • Verify that the physician accepts the insurance presented by the patient. Confirm insurance prior to the visit if not already done.
  • Communicate patient arrival status to staff and ensure the medical record is prepared for the physician.
  • Process HIPAA and institutional paperwork as needed.
  • Collect or retrieve referrals or insurance authorizations as required.
  • Monitor waiting room status and inform patients of wait times.
  • Collect co-payments, provide receipts, and ensure cash-control procedures are followed.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments and provide guidelines for requesting medical records if needed.
  • Perform simple charge entry and payment processing; note that these duties are mutually exclusive with other tasks.
  • Handle call center duties, including answering phones and scheduling appointments.
  • Follow all HIPAA and other regulations regarding PHI documents.
  • Initiate reminder calls for upcoming appointments if required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • At least 1 year of physician practice experience.
  • Must complete a minimum of one week of on-site training provided by the practice.
  • Experience in medical office settings and familiarity with computer scheduling systems preferred, especially IDX or similar.
Additional Information

The role offers an hourly salary range of $17.29 to $33.59, depending on experience and qualifications. The position is full-time, entry-level, within the healthcare industry at Mount Sinai Morningside.
