Job summary

Akumin Mesquite is hiring a full-time Patient Coordinator to ensure a positive patient experience from registration through post-visit follow-up. You will handle patient inquiries, verify insurance, and coordinate with clinical staff to streamline care.

This role requires strong customer service, attention to detail, and flexibility to support multiple sites. The position emphasizes accurate documentation, adherence to HIPAA, and a courteous, patient-focused approach in a fast-paced outpatient

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
• CPR Certification must be obtained prior to hire.
• Valid state driver’s license may be required to support multiple sites.

Responsibilities

• Greets and assists patients and visitors in person and over the phone.
• Performs patient registration in systems and verifies information.
• Answers calls professionally and courteously.
• Collects payments for time-of-service duties.
• Verifies insurance coverage and obtains prior authorization when needed.
• Transports patients to/from exam rooms and assists with transfers.
• Provides patients with pre- and post-procedure instructions.
• Maintains clean and organized work area and properly stocked supplies.
• Ensures accurate documentation of patient visits in electronic and paper records.
• Schedules appointments and documents insurance verification/authorization.

We are currently hiring for a Patient Coordinator at our Akumin Mesquite facility. This will be a full time position.

The Patient Coordinator is responsible for performing a variety of customer service and patient care tasks to ensure a positive patient experience. The role includes ensuring documentation and patient records are prepared and organized, and ensuring patients have a clear understanding of what to expect during and after their appointment.

Key Responsibilities

• Greets and assists patients, customers, and visitors in person and over the phone.
• Performs patient registration in various systems.
• Answers all phone calls in a professional and courteous manner.
• Collects monies for time-of-service patient responsibility.
• Verifies insurance coverage and obtains prior authorization.
• Performs preliminary screening of patients prior to procedures, which may include medical history.
• Transports patient to/from the exam room.
• Assists in patient transfer on/off the exam table.
• Provides the patient with preliminary and post-procedure instructions.
• In the mobile setting, assists in preparing the unit for transport.
• Maintains a clean and organized work area.
• Orders supplies and ensures the work area is properly stocked.
• Ensures accuracy of patient records.
• Schedules patient appointments and obtains insurance verification and/or authorization.
• Prepares medical records for physicians, patients and customers.
• Ensures accurate documentation of patient visits in various electronic systems and on written documents.
• Assists the clinical staff with documentation and image delivery to the patient, physician, or contracted customer.
• Performs all duties within HIPAA regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
• For Mobile Radiology and Oncology, CPR Certification must be obtained prior to hire.
• For Fixed Radiology, CPR Certification is a plus.
• As applicable, valid state driver's license required.
• Ability to work at several locations required.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Organizational and multi-tasking skills.
• Basic knowledge of computer applications and programs.
• Local travel may be required to support multiple sites.
• The COVID-19 vaccination is/may be a condition of employment.
• All candidates who accept an offer for employment will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment background check and drug screen as a condition of employment.
• Preferred: Six months customer service or related experience and/or training.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus.
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
