JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE
Member of the health care team who works under the direct supervision of an RN and performs tasks that optimize patient safety. The PCC is responsible for observing the patient, assisting with activities of daily living, and reporting observations to the RN. Provides assistance in transporting, transferring, and lifting. One PCC may be assigned to monitor two patients in a semi-private room.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain visible contact with the patient at all times.
  • Assist in providing personal hygiene and physical care needs.
  • Accurately measure oral intake and urine output and report to unit staff for recording.
  • Assist with patient ambulation. Attend to all patient requests promptly. Assist patients with meals. Observe the client for physical, emotional, and mental changes and report any changes.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment. Provide diversional activities as appropriate. Adhere to patient rights, HIPAA, and patient confidentiality.

Qualifications

Required Licensure and Certifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • BLS - AHA

Required Minimum Skills, Abilities, and Training

  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Completion of Patient Companion Training
