Job summary

Indiana University Health in Bloomington, IN, is seeking a unit secretary who provides a combination of direct patient care and clerical support for the department. You will assist clinicians, maintain patient records, schedule tests and procedures, and ensure a clean, organized environment for patients.

The role requires a High School diploma or GED, CPR certification, basic knowledge of medical terminology, and familiarity with infection control.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; CPR may be required for Unit Secretary training.
  • Equivalent acute patient care experience or completion of IU Health PCA education program.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification through AHA or completion of IU Health PCA program.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of patient care procedures and standards.
  • Knowledge of infection control and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care and unit clerical duties for the department.
  • Administers care under the direction of a Clinical Nurse and supports the patient care team.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly environment for the patient.
  • Provides information and directions to physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors.
  • May schedule tests and procedures and maintain patient records; sign in/out of the unit.
  • May order, receive and deliver equipment and supplies; provide continuous observation including suicide prevention.
