Job summary

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a Hospital Attendant to support daily living and personal care for patients, assist with therapy-related tasks, and help maintain a clean and organized treatment area at the Main Hospital and related facilities in Setauket, NY.

Responsibilities include patient transportation, basic therapy support, and clerical duties. Candidates must be able to travel between locations and perform medium to heavy physical labor.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
• Must be able to speak, read and write English.
• Candidate must be able to travel between main hospital, 33 Research Way, and 14 Technology Drive.

Responsibilities

• Assists Occupational and Physical Therapists and/or Therapy Assistants with treatment of patients in the outpatient and inpatient setting.
• Identifies changes in status of a patient prior to or during treatment and reports to staff.
• Assists with maintenance range of motion exercises and exercises to maintain strength and endurance.
• May assist with mobilization/ambulation of patients.
• Prepares superficial hot and cold applications.
• Prepare treatment area for each patient’s therapy; keeps area clean and organized.
• Transports patients safely to and from therapy.
• Keeps equipment closets organized, stocked, and clean.
• Changes plinths and stacks linens as needed.
• Cleans and disinfects equipment as needed.
• May issue and provide minor repair of equipment; place work orders for repairs.
• Follows Safe Practices for Hand Hygiene and HIPPA policy.
• Performs clerical duties and data entry.
