The UPMC East is looking to hire a dynamic, detail-oriented full-time Patient Care Technician (PCT)to join our fast-paced team at 275 Clairton Blvd., Suite 500, West Mifflin, PA 15236. As a vital part of our post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) team, the PCT will collaborate with nursing and medical staff to provide exceptional post-operative care, ensuring patients experience a smooth and comfortable recovery after surgery.
This role will be working five 8-hour shifts (7am-3:30pm) - No weekends or holidays!
Responsibilities:
- Support PACU nurses with post-operative patient care, ensuring comfort, proper positioning, and effective monitoring.
- Observe patients for signs of distress and promptly report changes to the RN.
- Provide reassurance and emotional support to patients recovering from anesthesia.
- Assist patients with hygiene, toileting, and dressing during the recovery process.
- Safely transport patients from the PACU to their vehicle upon discharge.
- Maintain a clean and organized recovery environment, adhering to infection control standards.
- Monitor linen inventory and coordinate ordering for the facility.
- Perform essential nursing assistant responsibilities, including vitals, blood glucose monitoring, intake & output tracking, specimen collection, and Foley catheter care.
- Execute specialized tasks such as phlebotomy, 12-lead EKGs, dressing applications, bladder scans, IV catheter and Foley catheter removal.
- Ensure proper documentation of patient care and maintain accurate medical records.
- Communicate effectively with the healthcare team, fostering a collaborative and patient-focused environment.
- Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, contributing to patient safety initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
- Support patient education, providing instructions under RN guidance and assisting in transition of care.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism, enthusiasm, and accountability in all aspects of patient and team interactions.
- Participate in department-based projects and quality improvement initiatives.
- Respond to patient needs and assist with daily unit activities, including meal service, call light responses, and patient transportation.
- Demonstrate adaptability in a fast-paced clinical environment while maintaining a strong commitment to patient care.
