Summary

This position is a hybrid role transitioning between a Patient Care Technician and a Unit Clerk. As a Patient Care Technician, you will be responsible for direct patient care services on a specific unit under the supervision of an RN or Case Manager. You will provide personal care and assist with the implementation of selected portions of a care plan, including respiratory services, rehabilitation services, and phlebotomy, under supervision of a Registered Nurse. As a Unit Clerk, you will coordinate clerical and hospital functions on the assigned unit, including receiving admitted patients, initiating patient files, acting on doctors’ orders, processing discharges, transfers, and expirations, and preparing hospital reports. You will also support staff with patient scheduling, computer inquiries, and routine tasks, maintain supply levels, and report unit needs.

Essential Functions

Patient Care Technician:

  • Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive data at all times, including patient information, proprietary information, and personnel data.
  • Formulate and implement accurate and timely care plans.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living.
  • Take vital signs, weigh patients, and collect routine specimens.
  • Maintain patient safety and infection control standards.
  • Prepare rooms between procedures, monitor supplies, and perform EKGs.
  • Document patient care activities accurately and legibly.
  • Check equipment and report malfunctions.
  • Participate in staff orientation and ongoing education.
  • Perform finger sticks.

Unit Clerk:

  • Exhibit excellent customer service skills.
  • Perform receptionist duties, manage communications, and assist visitors and staff.
  • Participate in quality initiatives.
  • Operate office machinery and manage records of admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Schedule appointments and assist with radiological procedures.
  • Transport patients when necessary and support clinical staff.
  • Adhere to hospital values, safety, confidentiality, and policies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, or equivalent experience.
  • One year of patient care experience preferred; or completion of clinicals, PCT program, CNA, or LNA certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of patient care protocols and practices.
  • Understanding of patient privacy laws.
  • Customer service skills and ability to assist with complex care programs.
  • Multi-tasking, prioritization, and effective communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with office equipment.
