Job description

Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Patient Care Technician, unit 5500 part time night - Graduate of a PCT program plus 6 months hospital experience.

In this role, the successful candidate assists in implementing the nursing process by performing direct and indirect patient care to assigned patients under the supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse. Assists in maintaining an orderly and safe patient care environment and unit.

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients: orienting patients to the hospital environment, providing toileting supplies, assisting with clothing, property checks, safekeeping belongings, transferring patients, preparing bedside units, and escorting patients as necessary.
  2. Conducts patient rounds for toileting, positioning, comfort, safety, and needs; responds promptly to patient call lights.
  3. Assembles oxygen and suction set-ups.
  4. Provides basic hygiene care: bathing, oral care, denture, hair, nail, foot care, shaving, and assistance with bedpans, urinals, or commodes.
  5. Prepares patients for meals and assists with feeding and positioning.
  6. Performs or assists with simple treatments, collects specimens, and reports alarms and abnormalities to RN.
  7. Assists with moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients; manages personal items security.
  8. Records vital signs, weights, intake/output, and other measurements; reports deviations.
  9. Performs post-mortem care and safety observations.
  10. Responds to patient and family needs with compassion, establishing effective relationships.
  11. Maintains competence through ongoing education; participates in meetings and maintains a safe environment.
  12. Assists with supply and equipment management, and performs other duties as needed to support the healthcare team and organizational goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a PCT program with at least 6 months hospital experience, OR CNA graduate with additional course completion and PCT certification, OR PCT certification through NHA with hospital experience.
  • BLS certification required upon hire; must complete PCT online program within 3 months.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills; working knowledge of English.
Required Licenses:

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Qualified candidates must communicate effectively at all organizational levels.
