Patient Care Technician - UMHP - Medical Group Float Pool * Days - Resource

The Medical Group Float Pool department supports various locations within the UMH-West Medical Group. Employees are required to work at different locations based on staffing needs. There may be occasions when employees move between sites in the same day. Employees will learn and adapt to different processes, preferences, providers, and specialties at each location.

General Summary:

Under the direction of a Provider (Physician or Advanced Practice Provider), the Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides basic patient care and performs tasks to support the practice.

Requirements:
  1. High School Diploma or GED required.
  2. Must meet one of the following:
    • Current Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification, or
    • Enrollment in a health science program with completion of nursing fundamentals and/or clinical rotation (preferred). Equivalent enrollment includes Nursing School, Pre-PA School, Medical School, or related health science programs, or
    • Equivalent experience such as Medical Assistant, Paramedic, EMT, Nurse Tech, Resident Aid/Assistant, or LPN.
  3. Preferred: Basic understanding of Medical Terminology, Anatomy, Physiology, and Patient Confidentiality.
  4. Current BLS/CPR certification required.
  5. Experience in a medical practice setting preferred.
  6. Able to complete unit-specific core competencies as per orientation.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  1. Flow patients on a provider schedule, including escorting, vital signs, and documentation.
  2. Specimen collection and labeling for POC testing (e.g., respiratory, urine, stool, blood glucose, pregnancy, lead).
  3. Phlebotomy: blood collection, labeling, and processing.
  4. Measure and record vital signs and other measurements.
  5. Use equipment safely and appropriately, assisting with oxygen, suction, and other devices.
  6. Assist with infection control practices and cleaning procedures.
  7. Document patient information and care in electronic health records.
  8. Communicate effectively with team members and patients, maintaining confidentiality.
  9. Order supplies and assist with procedures, maintaining a sterile environment.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned to support department efficiency and patient care.
