Job Overview

This role involves providing direct patient care and assisting with non-direct care unit coordination. The incumbent performs basic nursing procedures for patients in stable condition, supports RN in caring for acutely ill patients, practices medical asepsis, respects patient dignity and privacy, and adheres to hospital policies. Responsibilities include maintaining the patient environment, accurate documentation, and responding appropriately during emergencies. The role reports to the Registered Nurse and involves managing clinical and unit activities such as patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.

Responsibilities
  1. Patient Care Activities (30%): Perform and document activities like vital signs, ambulation, specimen collection, I&O, blood glucose testing, bladder scanning, patient transport, and assisting with treatments.
  2. Quality and Satisfaction Initiatives (30%): Participate in bedside shift reports, hourly rounding, falls prevention, hand hygiene, isolation protocols, and maintaining a clean environment.
  3. Documentation and Reporting (20%): Record vital signs, weights, I&O, restraints, and report changes or concerns to nursing staff.
  4. Unit Activities (20%): Assist with supply stocking, equipment cleaning, and checks.
  5. Additional Duties: Perform other assigned tasks as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Limited or no experience; able to attend 2 weeks of training
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions
  • Basic math skills, computer literacy
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association)
  • Act 34, 33, and 73 background clearances
Preferred
  • Recent acute care experience (within 3 years)
  • Enrollment in ASN or BSN program, with at least one clinical rotation completed
