Job summary

Loretto Hospital in Chicago, IL is seeking a dedicated Patient Care Tech to assist in the Substance Use and Medical Stabilization Units under RN supervision. You will provide patient care, assist with rounds, and ensure adherence to hospital policies and safety standards.

Ideal candidates hold a High school diploma or GED, CNA/EMT/PCT certification, CPR certification, and can communicate effectively with patients and healthcare teams while multitasking in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • CNA, EMT-B, EMT-P or PCT Certification required.
  • 6 months or more experience in Medical, Surgical, Telemetry, and Critical Care related fields.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare team members.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.

Responsibilities

  • Provides courteous service to patients, visitors, staff, physicians, and other customers.
  • Monitoring the patients during group activities, meals, and free time
  • Responds to department needs by accepting additional assignments to ensure continuity of services
  • Responsible for daily audit of patient charts
  • Promptly responds to patient needs and supports recovery environment
  • Completes patient rounds and documents observations
  • Manages the unit waitlist for incoming patients
  • Responsible for completing the DART form
  • Other duties as assigned

SUMMARY

We are looking for a dedicated Patient Care Tech to join our team. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Patient Care Technician participates in the delivery of care to patients in the Substance Use and Medical Stabilization Units. The Patient Care Technician promotes good public relations and professional attitude when dealing with co-workers, patients, visitors, and physicians. The Patient Care Technician also provides patient care and performs job functions and responsibilities in compliance with hospital policies, protocols, and job description.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides courteous service to our patients, visitors, staff, physicians, and other internal/external customers.
  • Monitoring the patients during group activities, meals, and free time
  • Responds to the needs of the department by accepting additional assignments and/or assisting others to ensure continuity of services
  • Responsible for daily audit of patient charts
  • Promptly responds to the needs of the patients, understands the patient population, and provides support in recovery environment
  • Completes patient rounds in accordance with unit requirements and accurately documents patient's observations
  • Manages the unit waitlist for incoming patients
  • Responsible for completing the DART form
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Understands and adheres to Loretto Hospital’s compliance standards as they appear in the Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Hospital regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk as well as occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Using proper body mechanics, the employee may be expected to lift, pull, push or move patients and/or equipment. Fine motor skills are required when using hands and fingers to handle, feel or reach. Normal or corrected vision, hearing and ability to speak are necessary. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, sharp eye focus and ability to distinguish colors. There will be periods of stressful intense concentration with more than average pressure used in a variety of problem-solving situations.
