The Resource Pool at UPMC Williamsport has a Full-Time opening for a Patient Care Technician!

This position will be scheduled as days with rotation, require 1 summer and 1 winter holiday, and every third weekend.

The position also comes with a 10% floating differential!

Purpose:
The Patient Care Technician Specialist plays a vital role in delivering high quality patient care by assisting nurses and healthcare providers in daily clinical and personal care tasks. Responsibilities include monitoring vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), collecting specimens, and ensuring a clean and safe patient environment. The Patient Care Technician - Senior may also work collaboratively with nurses to perform EKGs and phlebotomy procedures. The PCT must demonstrate compassion, strong communication skills, and a commitment to patient-centered care while adhering to all healthcare protocols and safety standards. The Patient Care Technician - Specialist will also achieve and maintain competency in at least one of the following advanced skills based on departmental need: basic arrhythmia, complex wound care, 12-lead EKG, or NG tube management.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate understanding of cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment in health professions. Support safety in the workplace and care for patients and self accordingly.
  • Report equipment malfunctions and contribute to unit activities such as responding to call lights, passing meal trays, and transporting patients.
  • Perform core patient care tasks including ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, repositioning), point-of-care testing (blood glucose), weights, vital signs, I&O, telemetry monitoring, and prevention of HAC & PSI (e.g., TEDs/SCDs). Complete dressings, restraint application/removal, bladder scans, specimen collections, IV and Foley catheter insertions/removals, straight catheterization, and phlebotomy. Achieve and maintain competency in these areas.
  • Provide patient and family education under RN supervision. Apply, monitor, and remove restraints as per protocol.
  • Identify learning needs and communicate them to the unit leadership. Assist in planning and prioritizing activities.
  • Handle assignments responsibly, support departmental projects, document accurately, and transport monitored patients. May perform IV insertions/removals, dressing changes, and clerical duties as needed.
  • Transport medications within the hospital when required, limited to intra-departmental transfers.
