Patient Care Technician, Specialist, NS - 7E Neurology/Oncology - 8 Hours Per Week

UPMC Williamsport has an opening for a Full-Time Patient Care Technician to join 7 East Neurology/Oncology Med Surg. 7 East is an Adult Medical/Surgical Unit focusing on Neurology and Oncology patients.

This position will be assigned 8 hours per week, working days with rotation, including every other weekend and holiday.

Purpose: The Patient Care Technician - Specialist provides routine patient care, supporting department services according to policies and procedures, under the supervision of nurses or physicians. Responsibilities include performing ADLs, point of care testing, specimen collections, and other technical skills as trained and certified. Depending on unit needs, may also perform basic arrhythmia, wound care, EKG, and NG tube procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate effectively with the healthcare team, support safety, and develop professional relationships.
  • Report equipment issues, respond to call lights, transport patients, and support unit activities.
  • Perform core patient care duties including ADLs, point of care testing, specimen collection, IV and Foley catheter procedures, and more, achieving all required competencies.
  • Assist with therapies, provide patient and family education, and monitor patient status.
  • Receive feedback, seek learning opportunities, participate in projects, and support department initiatives.
  • Adhere to policies, document appropriately, and perform clerical tasks as needed.
  • Transport monitored patients and perform catheter and IV procedures as instructed.
  • Meet educational and certification requirements, including CPR and potentially ACLS, with ongoing competency assessments.

Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent, enrollment in a nursing program with healthcare experience or clinical rotation, basic computer skills, effective communication skills, and CPR certification. EMT or Paramedic experience and additional certifications are preferred.

Licensure and Certifications: CPR required within 30 days of hire; ACLS preferred.
