Job description

Responsibilities:
  1. Communication and Teamwork: Demonstrates clear and effective communication with all healthcare team members. Understands cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment issues in health professions. Supports safety in the workplace and develops productive relationships internally and externally by showing accountability, enthusiasm, motivation, and commitment to patients and colleagues.
  2. Equipment and Communication: Reports equipment malfunctions to the appropriate department. Maintains effective communication with other departments and fosters professional, respectful relationships. Participates in unit activities such as responding to call lights, telephones, passing meal trays, and patient transport.
  3. Patient Care Responsibilities: Performs core patient care technician duties including ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, repositioning), point of care testing (blood glucose), weights, vital signs, I&O, telemetry monitoring, and prevention of HAC & PSI (TEDs/SCDs). Completes dressing changes, restraint applications/removals, bladder scans, specimen collections, IV insertions/removals, Foley catheter procedures, straight catheterization, phlebotomy, and other competencies. Achieves and maintains competency in advanced skills such as basic arrhythmia, complex wound care, 12-lead EKG, and NG tube management based on departmental needs.
  4. Therapies and Patient Instruction: Assists with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies. Provides feedback to RNs on patient status and instructs patients and families under RN supervision. May apply, monitor, and remove restraints as per protocol.
  5. Professional Development: Receives and acts on feedback, identifies learning needs, and seeks assistance for planning and prioritization. Participates in self-review, projects, and committees. Supports departmental improvements and quality initiatives.
  6. Policy and Documentation: Adheres to policies and procedures related to patient care and hospital information. Complies with safety policies, documents accurately, and performs tasks efficiently. Transports monitored patients and may perform procedures like Foley catheterization and IV management as instructed.
  7. Additional Expectations: Performs according to system-wide competencies, and other duties as assigned.
