Purpose:

The Patient Care Technician Specialist, CNA TCU provides routine patient care and supports the department services in accordance with established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the nurse or physician to ensure high-quality patient care. Responsibilities include performing ADLs, point of care testing, specimen collection, IV and Foley catheter procedures, 12-lead EKGs, and more, after completing required training and competencies. Additional duties may include wound care, NG tube management, and arrhythmia monitoring based on departmental needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
  • Support safety and maintain professional relationships.
  • Report equipment malfunctions and communicate with other departments.
  • Assist with patient activities such as responding to call lights, transporting patients, and supporting care procedures.
  • Perform core patient care responsibilities including ADLs, point of care testing, specimen collection, and invasive procedures as trained.
  • Assist with therapies and provide patient and family education under RN supervision.
  • Identify learning needs and participate in quality initiatives and projects.
  • Adhere to all safety and documentation policies.
Qualifications - Internal:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Must have:

  • Either 2 years of healthcare experience and meet the criteria for Patient Care Technician Senior,
  • Or 1 year of experience plus enrollment in a PT/OT/PA program with clinical rotation,
  • Or 1 year of experience plus a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.

Must possess a Certified Nursing Assistant license, complete required training, and demonstrate effective communication skills. Additional preferred qualifications include nursing students with clinical rotation completion, EMT or Paramedic enrollment, and basic arrhythmia certification.
