Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all members of the health care team. Understands cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment in health professions. Supports safety in the workplace and develops productive relationships internally and externally, demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, motivation, and commitment to patients and colleagues.
- Reports equipment malfunctions to the appropriate department. Maintains professional interpersonal relationships and contributes to unit activities such as responding to call lights, passing meal trays, and transporting patients.
- Performs core patient care technician responsibilities including ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, repositioning), point of care testing (blood glucose), vital signs, I&O, telemetry monitoring, and infection prevention practices. Completes dressings, restraint placements/removals, bladder scans, specimen collections, IV and Foley catheter insertions/removals, phlebotomy, and other competencies. May perform advanced skills like basic arrhythmia interpretation, wound care, 12-lead EKG, and NG tube management based on departmental needs.
- Assists with therapies, reports patient status changes, and provides patient and family instruction under RN supervision. May apply and monitor restraints as per protocol.
- Receives feedback constructively, identifies learning needs, and participates in self-review and departmental projects. Supports departmental policies, safety procedures, documentation, and timely work completion. Transports cardiac patients and performs certain invasive procedures as instructed.
- Performs in accordance with organizational competencies and other duties as assigned.
- Minimum education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience requirements: Either 2 years of healthcare experience for senior technician, or 1 year plus clinical rotation enrollment, or a bachelor's in health sciences.
- Completes required training and certifications, including CPR, basic information systems, and preferred microcomputer skills. May hold EMT or Paramedic certification and complete related courses.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- CPR/BLS certification required within 30 days of hire; ACLS preferred.
- Act 34 clearance required.
