Position: Patient Care Technician

Department: SICU

Schedule: 24 Hours (Evenings / Every Other Weekend)

About the Critical Care/Surgical Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit:

The SNICU is a 28-bed unit providing post-operative care to complex patients, including trauma, neurology, cardiac surgical, vascular surgery, and general surgery cases.

Position Summary:

As a Patient Care Technician in our Critical Care department, you will be a vital part of the healthcare team. Under the supervision of a registered nurse, you will provide direct clinical and support services following hospital policies and standards. Using a patient-centered care model, you will participate in delivering care to patients and their families, working collaboratively with the healthcare team to meet patient, family, and staff needs.

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Perform delegated patient care interventions, such as obtaining vital signs, bathing, feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and providing emotional support.
  2. Maintain a safe, clean, and well-equipped environment through environmental and inventory activities.
  3. Contribute to the efficient operation of the Critical Care department to ensure quality clinical outcomes.
Job Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current BLS and CPR certification (or obtained within 30 days of employment)
  • Ability to pass clinical competency testing
  • Physical ability to perform job responsibilities
  • Basic math and computer skills
  • One of the following:
    • At least one year of experience as a Patient Care Technician in an acute hospital setting, or
    • Enrollment in a nursing program with two completed clinical rotations, or
    • Completion of approved PCT or medical assistant training, or
    • One year of EMT or field medic experience (for adult ED positions only)
  • Fluency in another language is a plus
  • Previous medical/surgical experience preferred
