Patient Care Technician - Senior

UPMC Carlisle Surgery Center is seeking a Patient Care Technician - Senior for its Perianesthesia Department.

  • This is a casual day shift position with no weekend or holiday requirements.

Note: Title and starting pay rate may vary based on experience.

Responsibilities
  • Provide routine patient care and support department services following established policies and procedures.
  • Assist with patient procedures and Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning, and repositioning patients.
  • Complete medical record documentation accurately and report equipment malfunctions.
  • Respond to call lights, pass meal trays, and transport patients, among other unit activities.
  • Establish professional relationships and communicate effectively with patients, families, colleagues, and other departments.
  • Report patient status changes and provide patient and family instructions under RN supervision.
  • Achieve and maintain competency in advanced skills like wound care, IV removal, Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia, and NG tube management, based on departmental needs.
  • Perform standard nursing assistant responsibilities including ADLs, point-of-care testing, vital signs, telemetry, and specimen collection.
  • Assist with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies and provide feedback to RNs.
  • Adhere strictly to safety policies and procedures.
  • Support departmental changes, participate in quality initiatives, and demonstrate accountability and enthusiasm.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Either:
  • Two years of healthcare experience, or
  • One year of healthcare experience plus enrollment in a related healthcare training program with clinical rotation, or
  • One year of healthcare experience plus a bachelor's degree in health sciences.
  • Additional requirements include CPR certification, and possibly ACLS, depending on role specifics.
  • Successful completion of patient care technician senior class and basic information system training.
  • Microcomputer experience preferred.
  • Effective communication skills, with preference for those with EMT or Paramedic certification and completed clinical rotations.
Licensure and Certifications
  • CPR (BLS or equivalent) required within 30 days of hire.
  • Act 31, 33, 34, and FBI clearance with renewal required.
