Patient Care Technician, Senior, NS - 5 East Acute Care/Trauma Stepdown - Casual with Variable Shifts

UPMC Williamsport has an opening for a Casual Patient Care Technician, Senior, NS on 5 East, an Acute Care/Trauma Step Down Unit.

Casual employees are required to work a minimum of 36 hours in a 6-week timeframe, with 24 hours off-shift or on weekends. This position also includes one holiday per year.

Purpose:

The Patient Care Technician - Senior provides routine patient care and supports department services according to policies and procedures, under the supervision of nurses or physicians. Responsibilities include ADLs, point of care testing, specimen collection, and advanced skills such as basic arrhythmia, wound care, 12-lead EKG, and NG tube management, based on departmental needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Communicate effectively with the healthcare team, support safety, and develop professional relationships.
  • Report equipment issues, respond to call lights, and assist with patient transport and meal delivery.
  • Perform core nursing assistant duties and advanced skills as required.
  • Assist with therapies, monitor patient status, and provide patient/family instruction.
  • Receive feedback, participate in self-review, and support departmental projects and quality initiatives.
  • Adhere to policies, document appropriately, and perform clerical functions as needed.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Enrollment in a Nursing Program with healthcare experience or clinical rotation completion.
  • Basic computer skills and effective communication abilities.
  • Preferred: EMT or Paramedic enrollment, basic arrhythmia course completion, and CPR certification.
Certifications:
  • CPR required within 30 days of hire; ACLS preferred.
