Patient Care Technician - Senior

UPMC West Shore is seeking a Patient Care Technician - Senior for their Intensive Care Unit!

Note: This is a Full Time (36 hours/week), Day/Night Rotating Shift position.

Starting pay rate and title may vary based on experience.

Role Overview

The Patient Care Technician – Senior (PCT-Sr) provides routine patient care and supports departmental services following established policies and procedures. They assist nurses and physicians to ensure high-quality patient care, performing duties such as aiding with patient procedures and Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, and repositioning patients. They are responsible for accurate medical record documentation and reporting equipment issues.

This role involves engaging in universal unit activities like responding to call lights, managing telephones, passing meal trays, and maintaining safety policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform duties according to system-wide competencies and behaviors.
  • Report equipment malfunctions and communicate effectively with other departments.
  • Establish professional relationships and effective communication with patients, families, and team members.
  • Provide feedback to RNs regarding patient care and report changes in patient status.
  • Document accurately in medical records and perform clerical tasks as needed.
  • Achieve and maintain competency in advanced skills such as complex wound care, peripheral IV removal, Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia, and NG tube management based on departmental needs.
  • Perform standard nursing assistant responsibilities, including ADLs, point-of-care testing, vital signs, telemetry, and specimen collection.
  • Assist with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies and provide patient and family instructions under RN supervision.
  • Adhere strictly to all policies, safety procedures, and standards related to patient care and hospital information.
  • Support departmental improvements and participate in quality initiatives.
