Job summary

UPMC East is seeking a Part-time Patient Care Technician Senior to support the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) with a mix of adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. The role requires two 12-hour rotating shifts weekly, starting 6am-6pm or 6pm-6am, and will be titled based on the candidate's experience.

The CDU blends Med Surg aspects with varied patient populations, creating a dynamic inpatient-style environment while remaining within CDU boundaries.

Qualifications

• Core nursing assistant duties including ADLs, vital signs, I&O.
• Advanced clinical tasks depend on department needs (phlebotomy, EKG, Foley care, IV).
• Performs patient transport and supports RN in care delivery.

UPMC East is hiring a Part-time Patient Care Technician Senior to help support the Clinical Decision Unit!

The CDU gives you the Med Surg feel with a variation in patient population! The CDU cares for adolescent patients in addition to adults and geriatrics, which is different than the inpatient units at UPMC East. While the acuity level of patients reflects the Emergency department, the CDU allows you to reside within a department that reflects an inpatient unit. Best of both worlds!

This position is required to work 2, 12-hour rotating shifts each week with start times at 6a-6p and 6p-6a.

• Assure Patient Care & Clinical Duties
• Performs core nursing assistant responsibilities: ADLs (bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, turning, repositioning), vital signs, I&O, blood glucose, weights, specimen collection, Foley care.
• Performs advanced clinical tasks (based on department need):
  • Phlebotomy
  • 12-lead EKG
  • Simple dressings
  • Foley catheter insertion/removal
  • IV insertion/removal and dressing change
  • Bladder scan
  • Femoral hemostasis
  • Telemetry monitor application/reapplication
  • NG tube clamping/removal
  • Assists with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
  • Provides feedback to RN and reports changes in patient status.
  • Provides instruction to patients and families under RN direction.
  • May apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints per protocol.
  • Transports cardiac-monitored patients within the hospital.
  • May be present in rooms where medications are stored or transport medications between departments.
