Job summary

Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join the Nursing Resource Pool. This role supports multiple units, performing vitals, blood draws, admissions/discharges, and daily patient care under a nurse's supervision.

The position is part-time, dayshift (7am–7pm) and requires a high school diploma with BLS within 90 days. Related CNA/NCMA/NCPCT or EMT certifications, or active clinical study, are accepted. Health care experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• One year of prior health care experience preferred.
• BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.
• Candidates may hold multiple acceptable certifications listed by Sentara (e.g., CNA, NCMA, NCPCT, EMT/paramedic, Navy Hospital Corps School) or be enrolled in a clinical program.

Responsibilities

• Take vitals and assist with routine patient care.
• Perform blood draws and Foley catheter care as directed.
• Support admissions and discharge processes and daily patient needs.
• Assist with bathing, ambulation, and mobility under supervision of a nurse.
• Observe patient conditions and report changes promptly to nursing staff.

Sentara is currently hiring a Patient Care Partner to work at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital in the Nursing Resource Pool.

Hours/Shift:

Part-time, dayshift, 7am to 7pm

Department/Position Overview:

Are you wanting to try out different types of nursing units-join the Resource Pool! This position will work in various units at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.

As aPatient Care Technicianwith Sentara, you will have the opportunity to learn many new skills. From taking vitals to blood draws and daily care. The primary duties of this position include supporting the admission/discharge process, changing, bathing ambulating patients, drawing blood, foley catheter care, meeting patient needs while working under the direct supervision of a nurse. You will find that teamwork is exceptional, with everyone working together to provide the best care for our patients.

Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members who are accountable to, and work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. Provide patient care, support the admissions and discharge process, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse. Observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any change to the nurse.

Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Certification/Licensure

• American Health Associate BLS Certification required within 90 days of hire.
• Minimum requirements: Must have one of the following
  • Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, or
  • Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), or
  • National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), or
  • Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, or
  • Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or
  • Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT or PT, or
  • Current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.

Experience

One year of prior health care experience preferred.
