Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join the Nursing Resource Pool in Norfolk, VA. The role supports units across the hospital, handling a variety of patient care tasks and procedures on a 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM schedule (three 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week).

You will assist with ADLs, monitor vitals, and perform phlebotomy, EKG testing, and specimen collection under RN supervision. A range of qualifying education/certification options is accepted.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and one of the listed certifications or programs.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
• One year of health care experience preferred.

Responsabilités

• Record vital signs, mobility, and documentation accurately.
• Assist with phlebotomy, EKG, specimen collection, and Foley catheter handling.
• Observe patient conditions and report changes to RN or medical staff.

Sentara is currently hiring a Patient Care Technician to work at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in the Nursing Resource Pool.

The Resource Pool at Norfolk General floats to units with additional Patient Care Technician needs. We are seeking candidates who are interested in a variety of units & interested in learning new skills. Premium divisional shift differential! Join our team today!

The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and complies with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse. Observes patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and documents in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any change to the nurse or medical staff.

Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required) AND one of the following is required :
• Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, or
• Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or
• National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), or
• National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), or
• Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, or
• Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or
• Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Respiratory Therapist (RT) or Physical Therapist (PT) program, or
• Current work experience within the last three years as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Nursing Assistant.

Certifications/Licensure

AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
