Job summary

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) for the Vascular Unit in Norfolk, VA. Full Time positions with Day and Night shifts include three 12-hour shifts per week, with rotating weekends and holidays. Day shift runs 7:00am–7:00pm and Night 7:00pm–7:00am.

The Vascular Unit is a 24-bed stepdown/intermediate care unit for vascular disorders, kidney, and pancreas transplants. Responsibilities include patient care, vital signs, phlebotomy, EKG, and safety

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• One of the listed certifications or current enrollment in a clinical program with completion of at least one RN/LPN/RT/PT program or equivalent.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
• One year of health care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care and assist with activities of daily living.
• Monitor vital signs, mobility, and ambulation; observe condition changes and report them.
• Perform phlebotomy, point-of-care testing, and EKG testing.
• Remove peripheral IVs and collect specimens as directed.
• Assist with Foley catheter insertion and removal; ensure patient safety and comfort.
• Document observations accurately and timely and report changes to the RN.

Overview

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) for the Vascular Unit.

Full Time, Day Shift and Night Shift positions are available: Full Time: Three 12-hour shifts (36 hours per week), with rotating weekends and holidays.

Day Shift: 7:00am to 7:00pm

Night Shift: 7:00pm to 7:00am

Department Overview

The Vascular Unit is 24-bed stepdown/intermediate care specialty unit provides care to patients with vascular disorders, kidney, and pancreas transplants!

Patient Care Technician Responsibilities

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and complies with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse. Observes patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and documents in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any change to the nurse or medical staff.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required) AND one of the following is required :

• Sentara Care Partner Certification Program
• Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
• National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
• National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT)
• Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School
• Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic
• Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Respiratory Therapist (RT) or Physical Therapist (PT) program
• Current work experience within the last three years as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Nursing Assistant

Certifications/Licensure: AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.

Experience: One year of health care experience (Preferred).

Compensation

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay range for full-time employment is $18.93 - $27.41 hourly. Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Compensation within the range may vary based on qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs.
