PCTs deliver care with a team-oriented approach and an emphasis on good customer relations. This Patient Care Technician position is located on a unique unit that is really two subspecialties in one – TCU/RCU. The TCU (Transitional Care Unit) cares primarily for graduates of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) whose caregivers will be taking them home with tracheostomies (many on ventilators). The RCU (Rehabilitative Care Unit) provides collaborative team care to children with traumatic brain injuries, near drownings, strokes and other diseases, disorders or injuries involving loss of function. The goal of the team is to maximize the return of function to these resilient children and support their caregivers. TCU/RCU offers opportunities to develop relationships with patients and their caregivers since some have extended stays. Interdisciplinary teamwork is essential, involving RTs, PTs, OTs, physicians, social work, case management, nurse practitioners/physician assistants, etc., to care for these complex children and plan their transition home.
