Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Patient Care Technician (PCT), you will be a vital part of our collaborative nursing team, supporting Registered Nurses in providing hands‑on care and helping create a safe, welcoming environment for patients. You’ll assist with daily needs such as vital signs, mobility, and personal care, while helping RNs monitor conditions and carry out care plans. Your attention, empathy, and teamwork help restore comfort and dignity for every patient you serve and make our mission to improve lives a reality each day.

Minimum Education, Experience, Training, Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Other Job-Related Characteristics:

  1. Education: Highschoolgraduate or equivalent educationrequired.
  2. Experience:None
  3. Employeecompletesinitialandongoingtrainingandcompetenciesas definedbyserviceline,facilityanddepartment/unitwhicharespecifictotheneeds ofthepatient populationserved(ifapplicable).
  4. Preferred: PreviousPCT,Nurse aide,orderlyexperienceinahealthcaresettingOR ONEofthefollowing:
  • CompletionofaCNA(CertifiedNursingAssistant)trainingprogramANDCNAcertificationwiththeTexasDepartmentofAgingandDisabilityServicesonhire.
  • CompletionofanEMS(EmergencyMedicalSystem)trainingprogramANDEMTcertificationwiththeTexasDepartmentof StateHealthServicesonhire.
  • MHSemployeeinanLVNjobdescriptionasofDecember1,2011.

Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations Required:

  • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 – days of hire

Essential Job Functions:

1.Underthesupervision oftheRN,performsdelegated patientcareactivitiesasdirectedandorderedinaccordancewithone’straining,competenceandskill. Delegatedtasksmayinclude:

  • Obtainingvital signs,heightandweight,intakeandoutput,calorie counts,and/orsimplenon-steriledressingchanges
  • Safepatienthandling:Turningandpositioning,useofspecialtybeds,patienttransferanduseoftransferdevices, ambulationassistanceanduse ofassistivedevices,restraintalternatives, oxygenuseandtransport,suctionuse,pre-operativeskinpreparationand/oruseofsequentialcompressiondevices (SCD)
  • Specimen collectiontoincludebloodcollectionforbedside glucose testing

2.Consistentlyassistswithmaintainingasafepatientenvironmenttoinclude:

  • Addressingidentifiedhazardsinthephysicalenvironmentofthepatientroomtopreventpatient falls
  • Handhygieneandconsistentuseofstandard precautions
  • Useofpersonalprotectiveequipment(PPE)asappropriatefollowingtransmission-basedprecautionsprocedures

3.Communicatestimelyandaccurateinformationfordelegated patientcareactivitiesperformedtoincludeobservedpatientresponsetoperformedactivitiestotheassignedRN inawritten orverbalformatfollowinghand-offcommunicationguidelines.

4.Assiststhe RNtocollectdatafrompatientsonadmission forpatientprocessingandassistswithpatient transferordischargepreparations as instructed.

5.Assistspatients withperformingactivitiesofdailylivingtoincludebathing,shaving,oral care,toileting,grooming,changinglinens,providingwater,assistingwithmealdeliveryandfeedingasdirected.

6.Performshourlyrounding, consistentlyusesAIDETwheninteractingwithpatientsandanswersandrespondstocalllightstimely.

  1. Mayretrievemedication frompharmacy,medicationstorageroomortubesystemanddeliverto alicensedstaffmember.
  2. Assistswithorientationofnewpersonnelasdirected.
  3. Supportsthemissionandvisionof the Methodist Healthcare System.Understandsandiscommittedtohelpingthe Methodist Healthcare Systemanditsassociatedfacilities achieve itsgoals.
  4. MustlearnandcomplywithSystemandfacilitysafetypolicies andrules;mustuseappropriatesafetyequipmentandproceduresatalltimes;mustimmediatelyreport all unsafe conditionstosupervisors;mustbefamiliar withall safetyfeatures of equipment,tools ormaterials encompassedbyjobduties;andmustcheckwithsupervisors (priortojobperformance)ifthereisaquestionastothesafeproceduretobeusedforanyjobfunction.
  5. AdherestotheMHSCodeofConduct anddemonstratesethical behaviorasexpectedbyourpatients,colleaguesandthecommunity.Understandsthepersonal obligationtoreportanyactivitythatappearstoviolateapplicablelaws,rulesregulationsortheCode of Conduct itself.
  6. Completes other dutiesasassigned.
