The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Postpartum & Newborn Unit to assist nursing staff in inpatient and outpatient care. Responsibilities include vital signs, asepsis, basic procedures, and patient comfort.
Shifts are Day 7am–3:30pm, Monday–Friday with no weekends; located at John Pappajohn Pavilion, rotation of holidays. Merit pay and on-campus work option available.

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Patient Care Technician for their Postpartum & Newborn Unit to assist members of the nursing team in provision of multiple types of patient care in in-patient and out-patient care areas. Their work requires familiarity with a wide variety of nursing procedures used in delivering patient care.
Independently obtain and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
Carryout medical asepsis when performing skills and tasks including but not limited to phlebotomy, peripheral IV removal, & Foley catheter removal and cares for patients who are medically isolated.
Performsimple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as enemas, preoperative preparation of the skin, dressing changes, collecting specimens, applying binders, braces, etc.
Performspecial duties as taught and directed by the nurse in charge including but not limited to phlebotomy, ECG lead/12 lead placement, and brace/pin site cares.
Assistwith patient admission, transfers, and discharges.
Directly providefor patients' personal hygiene and comfort.
Turn, positions and ambulates patients.
Transportpatients, equipment, specimens, and supplies.
Feedpatients, servedrinking water and nourishments, and record patients' intake.
Assistpatients with bedpans and urinals and recordoutput.
Participatein nursing care conferences; reportpertinent patient information and incidents to nurse in charge.
Providefor patient comfort measures through social interactions.
Shareresponsibility for preparation, proper use and care of equipment and supplies, and for neatness and cleanliness of unit.
May assemble and maintain equipment and supplies in preparation for various diagnostic or treatment procedures performed by physicians or nurse.
Cleanareas per designated guidelines and standards demonstrating proper use of approved disinfectants, cleaning products, and care of the housekeeping equipment
Stock and supply patient rooms and nursing units.
Percent of Time: 50-90%
Schedule: Day Shifts 7am - 3:30 pm Monday - Friday, no weekends, holidays as assigned
Location:John Pappajohn Pavilion
Rotations: Rotating holidays
Merit Pay Plan: Pay Grade 5
