Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician for Pediatric care on a per diem, day-shift basis at the New Brunswick location. You will assist with vital signs, procedures, and patient comfort under RN supervision, ensuring high-quality, compassionate care for pediatric patients.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED and a current AHA BLS certification. Prior nursing assistant experience or CNA certification is preferred, with at least two shifts per month including a weekend

Qualifications

You'll assist with daily needs such as vital signs, mobility, and personal care, while helping RNs monitor conditions and carry out care plans. As a Patient Care Technician (PCT), a typical day may include:

• Assisting patients with activities of daily living and providing nursing care to patients including taking vital signs, EKGS, performing phlebotomy, assisting with bedside care, i.e. bathing, mouth care, skin care.
• Monitor vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature to track patient health status
• Document patient information accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems while maintaining strict confidentiality
• Implement infection control protocols to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff, adhering to facility policies
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers to coordinate care plans and address concerns
• Support emergency response efforts by applying Basic Life Support (BLS) skills such as CPR when needed in acute situations
• Providing patient care, based on physical, education, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients
• Providing for effective and safe patient outcomes through practice, judgment and critical actions
• Ongoing communication with patients and nursing colleagues regarding status of patient's care
• Participating in collaboration of our patient's plan of care from admission to discharge to ensure safe transitioning

To be considered for this PCT opportunity, you must have a High School Diploma / GED and a current American Heart Association BLS certification. Previous nursing assistant experience or clinical experience from an accredited nursing program is preferred or a CNA certificate. This position offers a minium requirement of 2 shifts per month 7a-7:30pm, one shift must be a weekend and 1 wint and 1 summer holiday will be required.
