Summary

This position works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. The PCT performs and assists with activities of daily living and certain treatments for patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse, following established policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Responsibilities
  1. (50%) Under the nurse's direction, prioritizes and organizes care for assigned patients, performing basic nurse’s aide skills as outlined in orientation, competencies, policies, and procedures.
  2. (25%) Documents treatments and observations in the patient’s chart and provides reports on completed tasks.
  3. (25%) Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly unit.
Other Duties and Responsibilities

Supports the mission, goals, policies, and standards of nursing. Recognizes, supports, and implements hospital and unit policies and work rules. Provides for age-specific needs according to department standards. Performs in emergency situations following procedures, ensuring patient safety. Demonstrates professionalism and courtesy at all times. Performs other duties as assigned.

Certifications and Licensures
  • Credential: BLS: Basic Life Support
  • Equivalent Experience: Within 1 month of hire or transfer
  • Qualification Source: AHA
  • Credential: PCT: MMH PCT/CNA/EMT/LPN Certification
  • Equivalent Experience: Must hold an internal MyMichigan Health Patient Care Technician certification or a current State of Michigan registry document as a CNA, EMT, LPN, or completion of an accredited nursing program, or relevant Medical Assistant credentials.

  • Credential: TEAM ADVANCED: Techniques for Effective Aggression Management
  • Equivalent Experience: Within 6 months of hire or transfer (24 months for employees hired before 12/31/2023)
Required Education
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Equivalent Experience: Knowledge of reading, writing, math, and computer skills equivalent to high school education.
  • Education Specialization: GENSTUDY
Other Information

Interpersonal skills for effective communication. Demonstrates competency in Microsoft Windows. Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred. Must handle stressful situations, wear PPE, and perform physical tasks including lifting and movement, with a physical demand level of Medium.

Overall vision and hearing are necessary, with or without assistance. Must be able to stand, sit, walk, and perform postural changes as needed. Exposure to infectious materials and adherence to safety protocols are required. Must maintain regular attendance and stay alert during work hours.
