A leading healthcare organization is seeking a Dialysis Patient Care Technician responsible for patient treatment, education, and support in a team environment. The role involves providing safe and effective dialysis therapy while also assisting in training and maintaining accurate records. Candidates must have a high school diploma and relevant certifications, ensuring a strong commitment to patient care and organizational values.
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Functions as part of the dialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with organization policies, procedures, training, and regulations set forth by the corporation, state, and federal agencies. Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines, maintaining a safe and clean environment. Supports the organization’s commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI activities, including patient satisfaction and process improvement initiatives to meet Quality Enhancement Goals (QEP).
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Education: Assist healthcare team in providing patient-specific education regarding adequacy measures, disease process, and access, including programs like OLC, AMP, UKM.
Treatment: Greet patients, evaluate vascular access, perform cannulation, monitor vital signs, initiate and discontinue dialysis treatment as prescribed, document all procedures, and respond to patient needs and complications.
Assist in training direct care staff under supervision of a nurse.
Follow organizational policies, maintain a clean environment, prepare equipment, and ensure safety protocols are followed.
Participate in CQI activities, document treatment data accurately, prepare patient charts, and handle lab specimen collection and documentation.
Support infection control practices, participate in audits, and educate patients and families on infection prevention.
Support patients through their first 4 weeks of dialysis, reinforce education, coordinate care, and assist with home dialysis education and supply management.
Require physical ability to perform lifting, standing, and bending, with accommodations as needed. Work involves exposure to infectious materials, travel, and a healthcare environment.
High school diploma or G.E.D. required. Must meet state or CMS certification requirements, and hold appropriate licensure. Demonstrate commitment to organizational values and customer service.
Previous healthcare experience preferred; successful completion of dialysis training and CPR certification required for continued employment.
