Job Description

General Summary
Under the direction of professional nursing staff, provides direct patient care, including taking vital signs, checking surgical dressings, assisting with activities of daily living, performing blood draws, and collecting specimens. Observes and reports patient status to identify needs and provides appropriate care. Serves as part of the interdisciplinary team.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Performs testing and manages patient care based on clinical findings.
  • Records patient activities including ADLs: feeding, bathing, dressing, toileting, and transferring.
  • Documents vital signs, pain levels, and other patient data accurately.
  • Assists with patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
  • Supports cost-effective strategies to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Promotes patient safety, including fall prevention and maintaining a safe environment.
  • Maintains cleanliness and order in patient rooms and work areas.
  • Provides post-mortem care as needed.
  • Collaborates with healthcare team members to execute the care plan and reports changes in patient condition.
  • Ensures patient comfort and manages pain appropriately.
  • Measures and documents urinary and stool output, calorie intake, and patient weight.
  • Assists with urinary catheter care, bladder scans, and catheter insertions with proper documentation.
  • Performs blood glucose monitoring and venipuncture for blood samples and IV access.
  • Performs nasal swabs and prepares equipment for IV placement.
  • Uses EKG machines to monitor cardiac rhythms.
  • Assists with enteral feedings and performs tracheostomy care and related therapies.
  • Provides basic wound care, dressing changes, and skin hygiene, reporting impairments.
  • Collects laboratory specimens following proper procedures.
  • Provides orthopedic and rehabilitation device care, including braces and compression stockings.
  • Mentors and precepts other PCT staff, ensuring proper documentation.
  • Participates in hourly rounding and responds to alarms.
  • Follows safety protocols, reports incidents, and uses proper lifting techniques.
  • Supports patient flow and prevents delays in care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Education & Experience

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Current Maryland CNA or GNA certification.
    • Minimum two years of ED or ICU experience.
    • Current BLS certification.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and organize priorities.
    • Competency in computer systems and clinical skills such as blood glucose testing.
    • Ability to perform delegated nursing tasks respecting patient diversity.

    Compensation

    • Pay Range: $18.03-$26.51
    • Shift differential eligibility.
