Responsibilities
- Work under limited supervision of nursing and medical staff assisting patients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, and other ADLs
- Observe patients' progress to prepare and disseminate reports to Registered Nurse or other medical staff
- Obtain and record patients' vital signs and collect specimens for lab tests
- Provide basic patient transport and housekeeping duties
- Measure and record patients' intake and output and other measurements in accordance with unit routines, assist patients with range of motion, and draw blood
- Assist in providing treatments to patients, perform technical procedures such as feeding tube and catheter administration, suture/staple removal, splinting of extremities, and perform ECGs as ordered
- Coordinate daily activities for assigned unit, including general clerical and administrative support, and participate in performance improvement activities to enhance and maintain personal and department standards
Qualifications
Job Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Completion of approved CNA or PCT certification required, or be in the final semester of nursing school with less than one semester remaining
- For Emergency room departments: completion of an approved EMT Basic certification may substitute for CNA/PCT certification. Paramedic license may fulfill all certification requirements.
- Must maintain active certification within the State of Texas
- BLS certification required—must obtain within 30 days of hire or transfer into position
Preferred Job Requirements
- 5 years' experience in acute or long-term care
- Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy
