The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus in Topeka, KS is seeking a day shift, full-time Medical Surgical Patient Care Technician (PCT).

The role involves collaborating with licensed nurses to deliver safe patient care and performing delegated tasks under supervision, including vital signs, ADLs, and specimen collection. • High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of approved CNA/PCT certification program or enrolled as a student with less than one semester left in an approved certification program or 6 months of previous experience in a specialty tech position.
• Must maintain active certification in the State of Kansas.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with licensed nurses to support safe, compassionate patient care.
• Performs delegated tasks under supervision of a licensed nurse and demonstrates advanced skills in age-specific care.
• Records data per policy, reports observations, and assists with clinical and non-clinical duties.
• Obtains vital signs and assists with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and feeding, and collects lab specimens.
• Supports patient monitoring and performs other assigned duties as needed.

Responsibilities

• The Patient Care Technician collaborates with licensed nurses to support the safe and compassionate delivery of patient care in a healing environment.
• Under the supervision of a licensed nurse, the PCT performs delegated tasks and demonstrates advanced skills in providing care to age‑specific patient populations.
• Responsibilities include recording data in accordance with policy, reporting patient observations and concerns, and assisting with both clinical and non‑clinical duties.
• Key tasks involve obtaining vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and feeding, collecting lab specimens, and supporting patient monitoring.
• In addition to proficiency in general areas of practice … enabling them to perform their job functions as assigned.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of approved CNA/PCT certification program or enrolled as a student with less than one semester left in an approved certification program or 6 months of previous experience in a specialty tech position.
  • For emergency room departments, an EMT Basic certification may substitute for CNA/PCT certification; paramedic license may fulfill certification requirements.
• Must maintain active certification in the State of Kansas.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.

Preferred Job Requirements:

• 3+ years of experience in acute or long-term care settings.
• Experience in Med-Surg Nursing or Emergency Room (ER) departments.
