PCT must have one of the following:

Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) provides direct patient care under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of the organization.

The PCT performs a variety of basic age-specific duties to assist in the care of patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN). All clinical care is performed under the RN's supervision, who delegates appropriate tasks. The PCT observes patient responses and reports deviations to the RN.

Shift: Part time Nights, 7p - 7:30a

Education:

  • High School Diploma/GED preferred
  • STNA or completion of HCA training with Certification for acute care, or Nursing Student with clinical experience, or 1 year of relevant clinical experience
  • BLS certified by American Heart Association

Experience:

  • Providing direct patient care
  • Computer literacy
  • Experience in a specialty area

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Following detailed instructions
  • Completing routine tasks
  • Basic reading, writing, arithmetic skills
  • Operating basic equipment/machinery
  • Basic computer skills

Principal Job Accountabilities:

  • Perform general patient care: bathing, hygiene, linens, dressing, back rubs, elimination, etc.
  • Observe and report patient responses and reactions
  • Provide age-appropriate care based on scope of service
  • Record vital signs, height, and weight
  • Transport and position patients, assist with ROM and therapy
  • Respond to patient needs promptly
  • Assist with patient and family communication and education
  • Perform venipunctures, collect specimens, and perform bedside tests
  • Apply oxygen therapy, perform ECG, wound care, catheterizations, and enemas
  • Follow aseptic techniques and universal precautions
  • Chart patient information accurately
  • Assist with meal delivery and patient feeding
  • Handle emergency procedures and work overtime as needed
  • Support orientation of new staff

Other Duties:

  • Perform additional tasks as assigned
  • Support family members and assist with discharge planning
  • Maintain inventory and supplies
  • Assist with room cleaning and maintenance needs
