Job summary

Avera St. Mary’s Hospital seeks a compassionate Nursing Assistant to deliver routine patient care in a busy hospital setting. You will assist with ambulation, bathing, feeding, and comfort, while also responding to call lights and supporting the care team.

In this role you will greet patients and visitors, relay messages, help with errands, and coordinate with departments for tests and appointments. A CNA certification is preferred; training and teamwork are emphasized.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to work specified hours and communicate effectively with patients and staff.
  • High school diploma or GED required; CNA certification preferred or licensed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide routine patient care: ambulating, bathing, positioning, feeding and other needs.
  • Respond to patient call lights and attend to patient needs promptly.
  • Greet visitors, answer inquiries, relay messages, assist with gifts, flowers, and mail; run errands for staff.
  • Ambulate patients, assist with transfers, check intake/output, and transport as needed.
  • Prepare requisitions and coordinate appointments with departments; assist with outpatient discharges.

Work where you matter.A Brief OverviewResponsible for providing routine patient care and support services in accordance with established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the nurse or physician, to assure that the highest degree of quality patient care is maintained at all times.What you will doProvides safe and direct patient care: ambulating, bathing, positioning, entering diet information into the computer system, passing meal trays, feeding and attending to other care needs. Responds promptly to patient call lights and special needs, ensures that patient valuables and personal items are properly handled and accounted for.Greets all persons coming to the area assigned, answer inquiries, may direct and assist them, take and relay messages, assist with gifts, flowers, and mail for patients, run errands for department staff.Ambulates patients and assist them in and out of wheelchairs, measures intakes and outputs, may collect specimens and transport patients as needed.Answers telephone, operates paging system, and attends station and direct traffic during emergencies.Prepares requisitions for diagnostic and therapeutic services patients as directed and coordinate appointments with respective departments. Makes outpatient appointments for discharging patients.Requisition of supplies and equipment, maintenance and repairs services and prepares related forms.Requests services such as the following as directed: Chaplain, social services, and pastoral care.Performs clerical duties related to procedures such as admission, discharge, preparing appropriate charts and forms, transfer, and death.Manages interdepartmental and patient mail.Maintains patient rooms in an orderly condition, changes bed linens and provides routine cleaning tasks.Essential QualificationsThe individual must be able to work the hours specified.
