Job description

Provides care under the supervision of a licensed practitioner of medicine or registered nurse to patients receiving renal dialysis treatments at a UVA Medical Center dialysis facility. The Dialysis Technician prepares the equipment used for hemodialysis and provides patient care during treatment.

1. Prepares and monitors equipment used for hemodialysis.
2. Maintains an infection-free environment of care.
3. Maintains supplies and equipment.
4. Prepares dialysis stations.
5. Reinforces patient education.
6. Effectively communicates and demonstrates teamwork as part of the interdisciplinary team to support operational efficiency and safe, high-quality patient care.
7. Provides clinical support to licensed healthcare professionals during patient care.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $18.37 - $28.47 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent.
• Experience: Previous healthcare experience preferred.
• Licensure: Certified as a Patient Care Dialysis Technician by a State Agency or Nationally Recognized Certification Program within 18 months of hire.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider BLS certification required.
• Certifications for using titles of dialysis patient care technician or administering medications include: CCHT by NNCC, CHT by BONENT, CCNT by NNCO, or equivalent licensure or certification.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Requires standing for prolonged periods, frequent bending/stooping/traveling; repetitive motions; proficient communication, auditory, and visual skills; attention to detail; ability to lift/push/pull 50-100 lbs; potential exposure to fumes, chemicals, noise, blood, body fluids, and infectious diseases.
