Job description

  • Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Set up and operate hemodialysis machines
  • Welcome assigned patients and assess their wellbeing
  • Evaluate vascular access, perform cannulation, and administer heparin as delegated or permitted by state law
  • Obtain and document pre- and post-treatment vital signs, weights, and vascular access evaluations
  • Initiate and discontinue dialysis treatments according to prescribed orders and established procedures
  • Monitor patients’ responses, evaluate intradialytic problems, and provide prescribed interventions
  • Calculate and enter dialysis machine programming for ultrafiltration goals, treatment time, and UF modeling
  • Ensure safety alarms are enabled and perform machine safety checks
  • Document treatment parameters, patient evaluations, interventions, and progress notes accurately and timely
  • Report significant information, patient-condition changes, and unusual findings to the registered nurse or supervisor
  • Obtain prescribed laboratory tests and prepare, label, store, and coordinate collection of specimens
  • Maintain a safe, clean environment; clean and disinfect machines, chairs, equipment, and surrounding areas between treatments
  • Participate in recruitment, clinical orientation, staff training, precepting, competency evaluations, and audits
  • Collaborate with Clinical Managers, Education Coordinators, RNs, and IDT staff on training, quality standards, regulatory requirements, and CQI activities
  • Support infection-control audits, education, adherence monitoring, and survey responses
  • Follow newly admitted patients through their first four weeks of dialysis and coordinate transitional dialysis care
  • Educate patients on treatment options, home dialysis products, benefits, and peritoneal dialysis setup
  • Coordinate transitions to patients’ chosen dialysis modalities and assist with TCU supply ordering and inventory
Requirements
  • High School diploma or its equivalent required
  • Must have a valid PCT national certification or state specific certification as defined by CMS
  • All appropriate state licensure, education, and training required
  • Demonstrated commitment to organization culture, values, and customer service standards
  • Attendance and active participation in all applicable preceptor training programs
  • At least five years patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility preferred
  • Continued employment dependent on successful completion of the organization dialysis training program
  • Successful completion of CPR certification required for continued employment
  • Must pass the Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment; failure does not preclude employment if reasonable accommodation can be made
  • Ability to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting and moving patients, assisting with ambulation, prolonged standing, bending, and lifting/lowering solutions up to 30 lbs frequently and 40 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to travel between assigned facilities and various community locations; regional, Business Unit, and Corporate meeting travel may be required
  • Ability to work in a healthcare environment with potential exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials
